In early 2018 our vision was to become Africa’s first Vegan Butchery where the only slaughter was the skillful slaughter of vegetables.
The juxtaposition and irony of this concept was and continues to be the exact talking point we believe is needed to guide global change and awareness towards a kinder future for all.
We grew from humble beginnings in our home kitchen, offering a small online menu to clients in Cape Town, via the food delivery service Uber Eats. By mid 2018 it became evident that we needed to find bigger premises and so we found a small but suitable location in the trendy suburb of Woodstock in Cape Town.
We crowdfunded on Thundafund and managed to raise a modest R38000.00 which helped us with basic startup costs and 1 month's rental. By late 2019 we were offering our meals in two full service restaurants to 1000’s of customers monthly in Cape Town. Our grungy Woodstock Brewery location seated a modest 16 seats as opposed to our 56 seater Constantia Uitsig wine estate branch. As the world came to terms with the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, restaurants like ours were the first to suffer the consequences of lockdowns.
The good news is that the pandemic gave us a clear vision of what was needed. And so we quickly adapted and pivoted from Restaurant to Retail. Read more here.
